Tech News Round Up (Verizon Opens the Kimono and the GDrive)
Verizon Opens Up
If you follow tech news at all, then you know that the news of the day was Verizon's announcement that it would open its wireless network to any application and any device. In fact it was reported here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. So, this means that you can take any CDMA phone (fortunately, Sprint, the only other CDMA carrier in the US) agreed to unlock its phones earlier this winter. So, there is a clear path when leaving Sprint to join Verizon. This also means more freedom to write applications for the CDMA platform. I expect the other carriers to follow Verizon's lead, but they are making steps to make CDMA the connectivity and platform of choice.
The GDrive will Arrive
While overshadowed by Verizon's announment, Google stated today that it will roll out an online storage service. It is called the GDrive and price and strorage size are being determined. However, I think this is one more step in Google's step toward world domination. I wrote yesterday that Google Apps lacks a way to store documents offline. Well, this solves that problrm.
