[...] 2. Location Awareness Comes to the Masses Two years ago most cell phone owners had never heard of Bluetooth. Today, it is practically a required feature in most wireless headsets. This will also happen for cell phone based GPS. Whether it is true GPS (provided via satellite) or cell tower triangulation, location awareness will become a killer application for mobile devices. On a sad note, I think that a few abducted children will be found and rescued due to having a location aware device on their person. This will drive the adoption of this technology, and, yes, parents will begin to use services that put a chip in their children to “keep them safe”. The privacy concerns of having constant information about the location of individuals will be a hotly debated issue (as I discussed here). Also, religious groups will protest putting chips in people arguing that it is the mark of the best. [...]

Great explanation Anjuan. This is indeed the future. Another benefit to a web app model is the ease of software improvements and upgrades. Without the maintenance of a network locally, a network virtually can dramatically change the rules of work.

I think you're right about the offline word processor. I think the best "Online Office Suite" will allow you to work in a shared workspace when connected and then lock your documents on the server when you are not. That way, you can work offline without fear that someone else will change the master copy on the server. When you connect again, your local copy becomes the master and allows others to edit it.

Never have gotten into Digg. Haven't had a need or desire, I guess.

Wow! Faster XP due to SP3? Oh man, bring it on! I can hardly wait. I had feared MS was goi ti give up on XP with the advent of Vista. I'm glad they are not.

Where am I? Where's my cell phone?

I just had a thought. Why not use an offline word processor when you can't be inline and then upload your work when you are? Am I missing the point? I do sometimes, you know...
